Pizzeria Cova Criolla
La Cova Criolla is a pizzeria located right next to the Prat de Sant Pere square, beside the church of Besalú. The establishment started about 15 years ago as a café and became a pizzeria in 2005. "Criolla" means native or local, highlighting the “Argentinian” influence in both the empanadas and the pizza style, known for its thick crust and generous cheese. In 2023, the pizzas adopted a more “Italian” style, featuring a thinner crust and a delicious edge that's meant to be eaten.
The specialty at La Cova Criolla is pizza, handmade using high-quality flour and ingredients. There’s a good variety of options: alongside the timeless classics, you'll find a truffle-based creation and several “criollo-style” pizzas inspired by traditional empanada fillings.
The other specialty at La Cova Criolla is Argentinian-style empanadas, also handmade. Among the desserts, the standout is the homemade tiramisu, prepared faithfully following the aunt’s original recipe.
On special occasions, when we open at midday, we prepare delicious homemade pasta dishes.
